Spiritual-Minded Military Maryland Air Force Reserve: How Do You Stay a Warrior When Your Flying Mission Ends? — The Post-Flight Protocol

The Sound That Stopped

The GAU-8 cannon. An unmistakable roar of the A-10 Warthog. The sound that caused ground troops to look up and know that they were safe.

It's a sound that's no longer in Maryland.

The last two A-10s left Warfield Air National Guard Base, Martin State Airport, on September 23, 2025. The 104th Fighter Squadron was inactivated, one of the oldest Air Guard flying units, federally recognized in 1921. The 175th Operations Group and 175th Maintenance Group were deactivated. Hundreds of airmen are changing their missions.

Maryland has become the last state in the country to not have an Air National Guard flying mission.

You did not lose your warrior. The enemy did not take it. The mission changed. The Spiritual Minded Military Shirt declares that you are still a warrior.

The Fighter Pilot's Identity Crisis

The A-10 was a ground-based aircraft. The A-10 was identified.

During its 25-year history, 104th Fighter Squadron has flown nine combat missions. In 2024 the unit had the opportunity to support operations Inherent Resolve, Spartan Shield, and Poseidon Archer. The 104th had been sent to Estonia via the National Guard Bureau's State Partnership Program to help stave off Russian aggression. One of the most popular planes in Air Force history, the A-10 featured a 30mm GAU-8 cannon and close air support, which saved ground troops.

The Air Force contended the A-10 is too slow and too vulnerable in combat. In March 2024, the Air Force announced that it will divest. The decision was bitterly contested. Letters were signed by retired generals to the president. The Maryland delegation was extremely vocal in its support for maintaining the mission. Transfer of F-16s from the D.C. deal was halted upon Trump's election.

Your Soldier for Christ Field Armor protects you from the enemy. The enemy is not on the flight line. The enemy is in an identity crisis. The armor protects you while you rebuild.

The Cyber Transition

The end of the flying mission is not the end of the mission.

The 104th Fighter Squadron is transitioning to a cyber mission—offensive and defensive cyber operations to protect critical infrastructure. The 175th Wing is becoming an exclusively cyber wing. The sound of the GAU-8 is being replaced by the silence of code.

This is not a demotion. This is a change of theater. The battle is no longer in the air. The battle is in the network. The enemy is no longer a surface-to-air missile. The enemy is a digital threat.

The warrior does not stop being a warrior. The warrior adapts.

Your Spiritual Minded Military shirt declares that you are still fighting. The theater has changed. The mission has not.

For the recovery framework that addresses transition stress, read Weekend Warrior, Weekday Wreck: The North Carolina Guard Logistics Solution No One Gave You.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9

The Post-Flight Protocol

The Post-Flight Protocol is not a suggestion. The Post-Flight Protocol is the difference between a warrior who stagnates and a warrior who transitions.

Step One: Grieve What You Lost

The A-10 is gone. The flying mission is gone. The unit structure is gone. The identity that wrapped your job and your family and your life is gone.

"Let's be honest," Maj. Gen. Janeen Birckhead told the airmen. "If you've lost a job you trained for and that you sweated for, the job that your families worked for and built their lives around, the job that employers stretched to get you out on the front line, the job that really wraps your identity—there's nothing I can say to remove that state. We can mourn the change, and we will do that together."

You must mourn what you lost. The mourning is not weakness. The mourning is the first step to rebuilding.

Step Two: Recognize the New Mission

The fighter pilot is now a cyber warrior. The maintainer is now a cyber operator. The war has moved to the digital domain. The enemy is no longer a nation-state with aircraft. The enemy is a ransomware attack. The enemy is a disinformation campaign. The enemy is a breach of critical infrastructure.

The Be Sober Minded Shirt carries the scripture "Be sober, be vigilant." The vigilance extends to the digital battlefield.

Step Three: Fuel the Transition

The transition is exhausting. The old skills are not obsolete. The new skills are not intuitive. The brain that was trained for the cockpit must adapt to the command center.

Fuel the Transition

One scoop of Cellular Hydrate – Electrolyte Formula every morning. One cup of Spiritual Minded Mushroom Coffee Blend every afternoon. The body that is fueled adapts faster.

Step Four: Find Your New Tribe

The 104th Fighter Squadron is gone. The airmen who flew the A-10s are still here. The 175th Wing is still here. The tribe has changed shape. The tribe has not disappeared.

Your Spiritual Minded Military Cap marks your place in the new tribe. The remnant does not disappear when the aircraft departs.

Step Five: Wear the Uniform of the Remnant

The A-10 is gone. The uniform is not. The Spiritual Minded Military Shirt declares that you are still a warrior. The dog tags on the front identify you. The unit designation across the shoulders positions you. The enemy sees you are still armed.

For the complete Air Force Reserve perspective on transition, read Robins Air Force Base Briefing: Why GA Air Guard Airmen Wear Their Allegiance.

The Legacy That Remains

The 104th Fighter Squadron was one of the oldest flying squadrons in the Air National Guard in the country. It was a federally recognized unit since 1921. The 175th Wing was awarded the Spaatz Trophy as the top Air Guard flying unit in 2024.

The A-10s had tail numbers 175 and 104 for the final ceremony—symbolic of the unit and the wing. The unit average mission-capable rate was 71.3%, above the Air Force average mission-capable rate across all types of fighters. It was the unit's 25th deployment to combat and it had deployed to nine missions in those 25 years.

The Legacy That Remains

It's not about the airplane. The inheritance is the airmen.

You are the legacy. You are the Remnant. The mission has changed. The warrior has not.

For the full spiritual warfare doctrine on legacy, read The Sovereign Protocol: Elite Gear & Fuel to Enhance Military Performance.

Conclusion:

The A-10 is gone. The flying mission is over. The GAU-8's sound is replaced by the silence of the command center.

The transition is the post-flight protocol. Mourn the loss by talking about it. Understand the new mission. Fuel the transition. The search for a new tribe. Dress in the Remnant uniform.

The Maryland Air Force Reserve airman who follows the protocol won't lose his warrior. The warrior will change. The warrior shall be engaged in battle. The warrior will conquer the enemy.

It depends on you! The enemy is watching the gate. Your tribe awaits.

The choice is yours. The enemy is watching. Your tribe is waiting.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7

Spiritual Minded Military Maryland Air Force Reserve: The post-flight protocol is now in effect. The A-10 is gone. The warrior is not. Fall in.

The Remnant does not transition. The Remnant re-enlists.
