Spiritual Minded Military Utah Air Force Reserve: Why 24-Hour SAC Alert Duty Left Your Nervous System Stuck — The Adrenal Reset Protocol
The Alert That Never Ended
At 3 AM, the phone rang. The sirens followed. The KC-135 crew hurried to the plane. They were up in the sky in 15 minutes. The Strategic Air Command required "24 hours' readiness."
From 1979 to 1991, the 151st ARW kept tankers on alert. The Cold War had a potential for becoming a hot war at any moment. The crew did not get any rest. The crew did not take it easy. The crew didn't turn off.
In 1991 the Soviet Union collapsed. The alert ended. The crew went home.
But the crew never left the alert facility.
Their nervous systems remained paralyzed. The hypervigilance remained. The startle response remained elevated. That sleep was never to be again. The adrenals continued to secrete cortisol because the phone call could ring anytime.
An airman serving SAC alert duty is not broken when it comes to the 151st ARW. The nervous system of an airman is still on duty. That's the Adrenal Reset Protocol in action.

The Uniform That Never Came Off
The SAC alert facility had no clock. The mission had no end. The uniform became a second skin.
The Spiritual Minded Military shirt carries dog tags on the front. The unit designation is across the shoulders. The shirt is not fabric. The shirt is a declaration that the mission continues—but the mission has changed.

Your uniform for standing down from SAC alert is
The Soldier for Christ Field Armor is the uniform for the new mission. The new mission is not a global alert. The new mission is internal peace. The enemy does not need you to stay on alert. The enemy needs you to believe you cannot rest.
Your uniform has served its purpose. The alert is over. Your nervous system needs permission to stand down.

What Twelve Years of Alert Did to Your Nerves
The human nervous system has not been built to be constantly ready for 24 hours a day for 12 years! The body adapted. Now the adaptation is tricky.
The four symptoms that continue after the veteran's alert are chronic.
You are frightened by sudden noises. A car backfires. A dropped pan. A child's shrieking. Your body responds to the alert siren! The cortisol spikes. The heart races. The adrenaline dumps. The answer is not based on memory. The response is a conditioned reflex.
Sleeping is not allowed all night long. Your body has adapted to sleeping in brief cycles. Two hours. Wake. Check. Two more hours. Wake. Check. The cycle repeats tenaciously decades later. Your spouse complains about your restlessness. When you thrash, the dog goes under the bed.
You're on the lookout for any opportunity to scan. There are 3 ways to escape the restaurant. Parking lot dead zones exist. The crowd has potential threats. Your brain is continually doing threat assessment. There's no risk. The assessment continues.
Feel bad if you lie down. It's a lack of care. The alert mentality replied, "If you sleep, the enemy wins. The body listened. Without assistance the body will not forget the lesson.
If a 151st ARW airman denies these symptoms, he is not cured. The airman is still on alert.
The Adrenal Reset Protocol
The Adrenal Reset Protocol is not an option. The Adrenal Reset Protocol is the distinction between living through the Cold War and enjoying a time of peace.

Step One: Recognize That Alert Is Over
In 1991, the Soviet Union dissolved. The ARW is dismounted. The phone will not sound. The siren won't go off. There is no enemy coming.
The rule is simple. In the morning, say to yourself, "The alert is over; I am safe; my family is safe. It's not a silly repetition. The repetition is a retraining. Repetition is the mechanism by which the nervous system learns. Repetition is the road to the unlearning of the nervous system.

Step Two: Reset the Adrenal Glands
Cortisol saved your life for when you were on duty. Cortisol is now keeping you trapped.
The adrenal reset is divided into three parts.
- Hydration: Dehydration mimics hypervigilance. A thirsty body is in a state of anxiety. An anxious body secretes cortisol. The cortisol makes you feel awake. A morning dose of Cellular Hydrate – Electrolyte Formula. The body is relaxed due to the hydration. A restful body reduces cortisol.
- Nutrition: The adrenal glands have a need for certain nutrients. Vitamin C and B vitamins. Magnesium. They are not offered by the SAD (Standard American Diet). Processed foods keep the 151st ARW airmen's adrenals inflamed.
- Adaptogens: Ashwagandha, rhodiola. Holy basil. These herbs can suppress the excess production of cortisol by the adrenal glands. The body has lost the ability to relax. Adaptogens retrain the body.

Step Three: Retrain the Startle Response
The startle response is a reflexive response. Reflexes are modifiable.
The rule is simple. Breathe when startled. Four seconds in. Four seconds hold. Four seconds out. Four seconds hold. Three cycles. The breath says to your nervous system, "No need to be afraid. This is nothing to worry about.
The 151st ARW airman who practices the breath will be startled less. The airman who turns a blind eye will remain in place.
Step Four: Create a New Sleep Protocol
Your body has been taught to sleep while being alert. Your body should adapt to sleep in a safe state.
There are 3 rules in sleep protocol.
- Darkness: Blackout curtains. No phone. No clock. Darkness is essential for the brain to make melatonin. A 151st ARW airman is sleeping with a telephone by his bed, and it's hampering his sleep.
- Cool temperature: Sixty-five degrees. The body needs to be cool to sleep well. The alert facility was a warm facility. You were warmed up for it. The cool allows you to rest.
- The weighted blanket: The deep pressure stimulation has a soothing effect on the nervous system. The 151st ARW airman who resists the weighted blanket is resisting recovery.

Step Five: Process the Unprocessed
The alert duty was traumatic. The trauma was never processed. The unprocessed trauma keeps the nervous system stuck.
The rule is simple. Find a therapist who understands military-alert mentality. Not a general therapist. A therapist who knows what 24-hour readiness means.
The chaplain is a resource. The VA has PTSD programs. The Air Force Wounded Warrior Program (AFW2) serves Cold War veterans. The resources exist. The 151st ARW airman who does not use them is still on alert.
The Salt Lake City Factor
Roland R. Wright Air Force Reserve sits at 4,200 feet of elevation. The air is thin. The oxygen is scarce. The body that is already hypervigilant struggles more at altitude.
The altitude makes adrenal recovery harder. The body works harder to oxygenate. The harder work releases cortisol. The cortisol keeps you alert. The 151st ARW airman who ignores the altitude is fighting an uphill battle.
The altitude requires more hydration. One scoop of Cellular Hydrate every morning. One scoop every afternoon. The hydrated adrenal gland functions better. The better function lowers cortisol.

The Utah Air Force Reserve Remnant
The 151st Air Refueling Wing. The KC-135 crews who sat on twelve years of alert. The spouses who waited by the phone. The children who grew up with a father who could not rest.
Most of them are still on alert. Most of them do not know why they cannot sleep. Most of them blame age, stress, or weakness.
The Remnant is different. The Remnant recognizes the symptoms. The Remnant understands the adrenal reset. The Remnant hydrates. The Remnant breathes. The Remnant sleeps. The Remnant heals.
The Utah Air Force Reserve Remnant is not a support group. It is a nervous system recovery network. Fall in.
For the cap that marks your place in the Remnant, secure your Spiritual Minded Military Cap.
Your Nervous System Can Rest Now
The alert ended in 1991. The body did not get the memo. The Adrenal Reset Protocol is the memo.
The 151st ARW airman who follows the protocol will not stay stuck. The airman will stand down. The airman will rest. The airman will heal.
The choice is yours. The enemy is not coming. Your body is waiting for permission to rest.
"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10
Spiritual Minded Military Utah Air Force Reserve: The Adrenal Reset Protocol is now in effect. The alert is over. Your nervous system can rest now. Fall in.
The Remnant does not transition. The Remnant re-enlists.
