Spiritual Minded Military North Dakota Army National Guard: Why Do Veterans Get Forgotten After Service — The Memory Protocol
THE QUESTION NO ONE ANSWERS
You were somebody. You had a unit. You had a mission. You had those who addressed you using your surname and anticipated you to be there.
Now you are nobody. Not to the world. Not to you, old unit. Not to the civilians who pass by you each day and do not notice you.
The phone does not ring. Months ago the text messages ceased. No one asks about your deployment. Nobody questions your suffering. No one asks if you are okay.
You question yourself about the same question each week. Why do veterans get forgotten after service?
"Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if she could forget you, I will never forget you. See, I have written your name on the palm of my hand." — Isaiah 49:15-16

THE ANSWER: YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN. YOU ARE INVISIBLE.
Here, then, is the truth, against which the enemy does not wish you to inoculate yourself.
You have not been forgotten. You are remembered by your unit. Your battle comrades have not forgotten you. The Guard remembers your service. It is not their memory that is the problem. Your visibility is the problem.
When the uniform was removed, you became invisible.
When you put on the OCPs, everybody knew who you were. Your unit was informed by the patch. The rank spelled out your authority. The uniform was speaking even before you.
And now you are dressed in civilian clothes. A hoodie of a brand that is unaware of your presence. A t-shirt with a meaningless logo on it. You are like all the rest of the people in Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, and Minot.
"For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in." — Psalm 27:10

CAMP GRAFTON MEMORY

Camp Grafton is bordered by Devils Lake. You trained there. You froze there. There you made friends. You were in rank with men who had heard your name.
Our soldiers still recall you. They simply do not know how to get in touch with you. They have become trapped in their self-isolation. They are engaged in their battles. They are waiting to see who will go first.
Both enemies have you waiting. The Memory Protocol endangers the standoff.
The North Dakota winter is long. The chill is holding everybody at home. The isolation compounds. The phone remains silent since no one would want to be a burden.
You are not a burden. You are a combat friend who lost his squad. The unit did not lose you. They simply can not see you.

THE THREE FORGETTING LIES
There are three things that the enemy lies to you about. He has been preaching the same to them over the years. Learn them. Counter them.
Lie One: No one knows you.
Your unit moved on. You were replaced by new soldiers. Your old battle friends have new friends. You are a ghost.
Counter: The enemy is lying. Your unit left you before. They advanced, with the vacant seat at muster. They are not aware of how to stuff it with you. Your battle friends continue to discuss you. They simply do not know how to contact them.
Lie Two: "Your service was worth nothing.
You did not change anything. Without you, the mission would not have occurred. You are not special.
Counter: The adversary is lying. The soldier on your left and right needed your service. You had a burden that would shatter civilians. You were on guard so that people could rest. Your service mattered. The enemy will have you think otherwise because what he thinks is your faith in your service and consequently is a danger to him.
Lie Three: It is as though no one could tell whether you disappeared or not.
You might go and nobody would ever bother to look. There would be no difference whether you are absent or not.
Counter: The foe is deceiving. This is the worst of all lies. Your family would be destroyed without you. Your absence would come to haunt your unit. It would be a triumph for the enemy to know you would be absent. The foe desires you to be away. That is an indication that you are needed.

THE VISIBILITY PROTOCOL
You cannot sit and wait until people remember you. You have to leave yourself so that you are not forgotten.
The First Step: Wear Your Colors.
Wear your Spiritual minded Military shirt. Take it to the grocery store. Take it to the gas station. Take it to the coffee shop. The uniform proclaims in your speech, "I am a veteran." I served. I am not invisible.
Step Two: Append the Text.
Identify one of your battle buddies in your unit. Send three words. "I remember you." Do not ask for anything. Do not look to anything. Send the words; just send the words. The enemy has been informing your battle buddy that nobody remembers. You are now going to make the enemy wrong.
Step Three: Attend the Formation.
Find a church. Find a veteran group. Find a place where people stand in formation, even if the formation is not military. Do not sit in the back. Stand where you can be seen. Your presence is a declaration.
Step Four: Declare Your Name.
When someone asks what you do, do not say your job. Say "I am a veteran." The job is what you do. The veteran is who you are.
The Memory Protocol does not wait for others to remember. The Memory Protocol makes you unforgettable.

THE NORTH DAKOTA PARADOX
North Dakota is a small state. Everyone knows everyone. Yet you feel completely alone.
The paradox is the enemy's design. He uses the smallness to make you feel watched. He uses the smallness to make you feel judged. He uses the smallness to keep you silent.
You are not being watched. You are being ignored. There is a difference.
The people of North Dakota are not avoiding you. They are busy with their own lives. They do not know you need connection because you have not told them. They do not know you feel forgotten because you have not made yourself visible.
The Memory Protocol closes the gap. You become visible. The enemy loses his cover.

THE PROMISE OF REMEMBRANCE
"I will never leave you nor forsake you." — Hebrews 13:5-6
God does not forget you. The enemy wants you to project your invisibility onto God. The enemy wants you to believe that if humans forget you, God must have forgotten you too.
God does not forget. God sees you in your living room at 2 AM. God sees you in your truck on I-94. God sees you in the armory parking lot after drill weekend.
You are not forgotten. You are not invisible to Him. The memory protocol makes you visible to each other.
"I have written your name on the palm of my hand." — Isaiah 49:16
Conclusion
North Dakota Army National Guard, you asked why veterans get forgotten after service.
The answer is not that no one cares. The answer is that no one knows how to remember. The Memory Protocol is how.
Wear your colors. Send the text. Attend the formation. Declare your name.
You are not forgotten. You were invisible. Invisibility is not the same as forgotten. Invisibility can be reversed.
You have the protocol. You have the armor. You have the fuel. The only question is whether you will execute.
