Spiritual Minded Military Wisconsin Army Reserve: What Is a DD214 and Why Is It So Important for Reservists — The Resurrection Protocol
THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF PAPER YOU WILL EVER RECEIVE
You were active in the military. You deployed. You stood the watch. You preserved the uniform. So you went into the Army Reserve. You have received a piece of paper from someone. A DD214. You filed it. You forgot it. You didn't get the significance of it at all.
The DD214 is more than just a form. The DD214 is your military discharge certificate. You are officially dead according to the DD214. The active duty soldier is not there anymore. This chapter has been closed.
However, the soldier was not killed. The soldier transferred on to the reserves. The soldier is still alive! The soldier is a current serviceman. The soldier remains the same YOU.
The DD214 is not an obituary. You're keeping your soldier alive by means of the Resurrection Protocol.
Therefore, whoever is in Christ is a new creation; the old has gone, and the new is here.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.—2 —2 Corinthians 5:17

WHAT IS A DD214
The DD214 is a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. It is given to each member of the Armed Forces upon his/her active duty separation.
Your entire service record will be included in the DD214.
Your service or military branch. The dates of your active duty service. Your rank at separation. Your military occupation code (MOS). Awards and decorations you have received. The type of service your character was assigned to (honorable, general, or other than honorable). Your separation and reenlistment code.
Your proof of service is the DD214. The DD-214 is your key to benefits. The DD214 is your military discharge certificate.

WHY THE DD214 IS CRITICAL FOR RESERVISTS
You are in the reserve now. You are still serving. You still have a military career ahead of you. The DD-214 is still the most important document you own.
The DD214 determines your eligibility for the following:
VA home loan benefits. GI Bill education benefits. Veterans' preference for federal jobs. TRICARE and VA healthcare. State veteran benefits (Wisconsin has specific benefits for veterans). Military funeral honors. Burial in a national cemetery. VA disability compensation.
No DD214 means no benefits. A lost DD214 means delayed benefits. An incorrect DD214 means denied benefits.
The enemy wants you to ignore your DD214. The enemy wants you to file it away and forget it. The enemy wants you to miss out on what you earned.

THE WISCONSIN RESERVE CONTEXT
Fort McCoy is located in WI. Thousands of soldiers have come through McCoy to deploy and to separate. There are thousands of DD214s issued there.
Wisconsin Army Reserve soldiers who were on active duty. African American soldiers that separated at Fort McCoy. Soldiers who have a DD214 in a drawer somewhere, forgotten.
The reality of Wisconsin: The weather is cold. Winters are long. The isolation is very real. The benefits on your DD214 can help you buy a home in Wisconsin. You can attend UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, or Marquette with the GI Bill. Your VA healthcare system can help you stay healthy this winter.
But you have to use your DD214. These benefits are not provided to you. You have to go to them.
Here are some common DD214 mistakes made by reservists. Here are some common DD214 mistakes made by reservists.
THE RESURRECTION PROTOCOL
1. Find Your DD214
Search your files. Search your email. Ask your family. Order a replacement on the internet if it is not available. Let not the enemy rob you of your benefits.
2. Examine the DD214
Check every block. Is your character of service correct? Is your rank correct? Have your awards been posted? Are your dates correct? If it's incorrect, say so.
3. Use Your DD214
Apply for your VA home loan. Use your GI Bill. Sign up for VA health care. Claim Wisconsin state veterans' benefits. The benefits are not terminated. The advantages are not self-related.
4. Keep Your Soldier Alive
The DD214 is known as the military's discharge certificate. Your soldier was not actually killed. Your soldier went to the Reserve. Your soldier is still on an assignment.
If you are wearing a Spiritual Minded Military shirt, please wear it. Not as nostalgia. As a declaration. I'm still a soldier. My DD214 is not my obituary; my resurrection is now.

THE FORT MCCOY ASSIGNMENT
Fort McCoy is where Wisconsin soldiers process in and out of active duty. You may have received your DD214 there. You may have separated there. You may have transitioned to the Reserve there.
Your assignment is not to leave your soldier at Fort McCoy. Your assignment is to bring your soldier home.
The soldier who served on active duty is not dead. The soldier who deployed is not dead. The soldier who separated himself is not dead. The soldier is you. The Resurrection Protocol is how you prove it.
WISCONSIN STATE BENEFITS FOR DD214 HOLDERS
Fort McCoy is the location for Wisconsin soldiers to come and go out of service. There you might have been issued your DD214. You might have parted ways there. You might have transited there to reserve it.
You are not to leave your soldier at Fort McCoy. Your task is to return your soldier home.
Wisconsin GI Bill. Tuition remission for eligible veterans at University of Wisconsin System schools, Wisconsin Technical Colleges, and participating private institutions.
Wisconsin Veteran License Plates. Free or reduced-cost registration for qualified veterans.
Your DD214 is your key to these benefits. The enemy wants you to leave them on the table. The Resurrection Protocol wants you to claim them.

THE THREE DD214 LIES
Lie One: "You do not need your DD214 anymore. You are in the reserve now."
The truth is your DD214 is the proof of your active duty service. Your reserve service does not erase your active duty service. The benefits from your active duty service are separate from your Reserve benefits. You need both.
Lie Two: "Your DD214 is correct. You do not need to check it."
The truth is military records have errors. Common errors include wrong rank, wrong dates, missing awards, and incorrect character of service. Check your DD214. Errors can cost you benefits.
Lie Three: "It is too late to use your benefits."
The truth is most veteran benefits do not expire. The GI Bill has time limits. A VA home loan has no time limit. State benefits have various deadlines. Check each benefit. Do not assume you missed the window.
Conclusion
Wisconsin Army Reserve, you asked, "What is a DD214, and why is it so important for Reservists?"
The answer is your future.
The DD214 is your proof of service. Your key to benefits. Your military obituary. Your resurrection is not a metaphor. Your resurrection is an action.
Find your DD214. Review your DD214. Use your DD214. Apply for your VA home loan. Use your GI Bill. Register for VA healthcare. Claim your Wisconsin state benefits.
Your active duty soldier did not die. Your active duty soldier transferred to the reserves.
This is the Spiritual Minded Military Resurrection Protocol for the Wisconsin Army Reserve. Your DD214 is not your obituary. Your soldier is not dead. Prove it. Fall in.
The Remnant does not transition. The Remnant re-enlists.
